In Florida, the decision to place your child for adoption isn’t final until you sign a Consent to Adoption form. Even if you chose adoption during your pregnancy, you still have a waiting period of either 48 hours or until you’re medically ready to leave the hospital, whichever happens first.

However, if you change your mind after signing the form, the decision is irreversible because you have relinquished your parental rights.

At Grace Women’s Care Center, we can help you carefully consider your options and get connected to reputable adoption agencies.

Preparing Yourself For Adoption

As the birth mother, you decide whether to place your baby for adoption, and you can select the adoptive family that you believe is most suitable. No person or entity can coerce you into making an adoption plan you do not feel confident about.

If you want to know more about what adoption looks like, there are several options available:

  • Open adoption: You’ll develop a relationship and open communication with the adoptive family.
  • Semi-open adoption: A lawyer or adoption agency mediates all communication, keeping your identity private.
  • Closed adoption: All details are kept confidential and sealed by the court. You and the adoptive family remain anonymous.

Adoption can be an emotional journey for some women. Having a robust support system around you and access to mental health resources is essential.

You do not pay for adoption services, and your medical expenses will be covered if you do not have insurance.
